A great day for freedom!

What a great day yesterday was. The 12th of March, 2006.
It certainly needs to be marked and should go into the dairies.

It was a feast for an absolute sports freak like me and the enthusiasts all over. A perfect day to sit back and enjoy. Sundays were never too fun!

The day's sporting events (in chronological order of the start of the event)
And check out the purple links for more.

India doing an early damage to put England aback
Punjab C.A. Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.
Though, this one is no where a near proximity in the level of excitement the other events brought later in the day, it's worth cribbing a couple of lines. And by the time I posted this, India pulled off a victory!

The Aussies' massacre and the Proteas' reply
New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

What a batting track that was at the Wanderers.
Many a poor 5.5 oz weighing ball had a tough time yesterday getting slammed into the stands and running all over across the lush green to the ropes.
Credit to the kangaroos, for I saw what I thought I'd never see. A team surpassing the 400 mark in a LOI.

More credit to Smith's men, for they generated a fever which wracked our nerves, watching it live.
Never did I saw a team chasing such a massive total, playing with such levels of confidence the South Africans displayed.
The way the Proteas took on the Aussie bowlers was truly glorifying.
Poor Lewis have had his worst day...113 off his quota of 10 overs!!
Bahrain GP, Sakhir, Bahrain.

It's basically Schumi's sport. A few call it Formula 1 though.

An amazing start for the Ferrari team with a 1, 2 finish in Saturday's qualifying.
Poor Massa messed it up and didn't do well in the race;
Schumi was leading till half-way when he had to stop in the pits and clocked 8.7" while Alonso had it done in a second less.

A fucking second made all the difference; 1/86400 th of a day costed the all time great Schumacher 2 points.
But the race was thrilling over all with Schumi trying desperately to pass the Renault car and finished a close second.
Anyway, it was amazing to see the master back on the podium and reckoned that he'd be back there again. Watch out for the next one in Kuala Lampur this week-end.

It's United all the way
Old Trafford, Manchester.

The Reds started off with a blitzkrieg, with Rooney scoring two goals in a span of 5 mins.
At 12', Manchester Utd. lead Newcastle Utd 2-0.
Though, Fergie's men had a few chances later, they didn't score and had to finish 2-0.

The day would have had a perfect finish had Liverpool's Steven Gerrard didn't make a blunder passing it wrong to Arsenal 's Thierry Henry. It was a give away lollipop to Henry and he did convert it in style. Arsenal finished it off 2-1.

The 12th of March, 2006.

Hi Dude!

Yep Sohail (Guess I'm right)

Nico Rosberg was certainly impressive. I wish I cud include a few lines. I'm too lazy to edit it now.
I'm too obsessed with Schumacher, u know. So, it was schumi centric.

And abt Kimi, it's an incredible finish.
But, I believe Saturday's crash played a part in it.
Had he able to finish the qualifying, he wudn't have been full on fuel.
He pulled it with just 2 pit stops. I bet, u'd know.

Not 2 pit stops dude...just one...and I am a great fan of the finn too...It should be Schumi (1) and then the Finn (2) at the end of the season. Ferrari might bring him on board next season!!!!

Fuck. Make it 1.
Tht was a blunder.
How cud I possibly write it wrong?

I'm still not sure if it's Sohail.

I'm totally against Alonso and Renault, for tht matter.

This season seems to be a promising one. I hope the same 1,2 positions u're expecting.

I'd be glad if Button or Coulthard comes in.
I back for the Britons.

Let's watch out.

Much said and discussed about F1...the rivalry b/w Ferrari and others will continue, but I think the cutting to size of the Aussies by the Proteas was a much more significant event...totally changed the way ODIs are seen...raised the bar...stretched the limits. Speaks much about the human capability of surpassing the unimaginable!!

7:04 am
Blogger Floyd said...

@Shwetank: Yeah man. It wud be one of the most significant events in sporting history! Leave alone being for the day.

Do u feel if it's worth as being hyped as the greatest LOI ever?

10:55 am
Blogger Shwetank said...

Well if people from neutral countries are taking so much interest,it does get my vote for sure.Don't think ne LOI betters that.

But why hype when that is the uncontested truth?

@Soha: Leave EAMCET, CAT...

Great ppl are identified easily, even if they're in a disguise!

@Shwetank: I was regarding it as the best LOI ever, until Sohail told tht he wasn't regarding it so!

The batting part was a gr8 show. But, the bowling! They were just hammered all throughout.
Just a thought....

It still, will be, one of the greatest LOIs.

We can have a long discussion on what goes in the makin of a good LOI. My criteria would include entertainment, spirit, team work and thrill that keeps you at the edge of your seat. This one had it all.And for a good contest between bat and ball I would stick to test cricket.
Tell me the ODIs that stand out as great contests and come to your mind without a strain, where the bowlers were not blasted?

I, indeed, got sm strain in letting thoughts creep in!

But, I give it u. U were right, altogether.

Sohail has named a few other than the Aus vs. SAF world cup semis match.
He shud be back with a list!

4:29 am
Blogger Floyd said...

The discussion is going on!
Well, lets keep it up.

@ Sohail: Totally agreeable points by u man.
One thing is apparent to me. What matters ultimately is how the sporting freak in each of us is unleashed!
Lemme make it clear.....
Primarily, one part of the game appeals mostly to all of us. Be it batting or bowling.(May be, fielding too!)
That thing alone influences us throughout the match.
Just a perception. Wat say?

5:02 am
Blogger Floyd said...

@Soha: A very good list dude.

Why not a post on these matches by you?

5:04 am
Blogger Shwetank said...

@sohail: Pretty enlightening, that list brought back some great memories. The Sharjah matches, the NatWest final (india vs England) the India vs Pak WC (the Amir-Prasad duel)match are all personal favorites, and so is the Independence cup final at Dhaka...but none of them stand out so that I can definitely say that this is the greatest.

5:33 am
Blogger Floyd said...

Add this one to the list as well.
The Natwest final 06.
England vs. Aus, the tied match.
It was nail biting till the end.

@Soha: Tag-game, I'm game.
Let's hit it man.

@Soha: Oops!
I think I'm an year ahead in time!
Right. It was '05.

Scores: 196/9 and 196 all out.

Not one year, I think you are a lightyear ahead of others :D

(don't mind Please ...i am just in one of those moods today)

Light year!!

I think I'm far off.
How do I get back to the normal time frame then?
